국제공인 공급관리전문가 (Certified Professional in Supply Management)는 2000년 이후 급속히 변화하고 있는 구매환경에 대응하기 위해, 1974년 이후 진행해 오던 C.P.M.(Certified Purchasing Manager, 국제공인 구매전문가) 의 지식체계에 제품 및 서비스 설계, 프로젝트 관리, 글로벌 소싱, 위험관리 및 규제준수 등의 내용을 강화하여, ISM이 2008년 도입한 구매분야 최고의 국제자격증이다.

기업의 공급관리 체계가 급속히 복잡해 해지고, 공급망관리(Supply Chain Management : SCM)의 중요성이 크게 부각되는 현재의 구매체계에서, CPSM은 공급관리 분야에서 기업의 부가가치를 향상할 수 있는 다양한 지식체계를 제공하고 있으며, 기업의 구매인들의 보다 전략적이고 과학적인 의사결정 및 구매활동에 CPSM의 지식체계가 도움이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.

한국의 경우, CPSM은 2008년 상반기에 Pilot Test를 거쳐 현재 CBT(Computer Based Testing) 방식으로 응시가 이루어 지고 있으며, 2008년 10월 첫 CPSM (이승현 산업공학 박사, IEMS 연구센터)을 배출하였다.
